Great for sifting top soil
First, what I used them for and how they worked out:
I purchased three of these. The 1/2, 1/4 and 1/8 sizes. I used them from largest to smallest to break up the clumps of dirt and sift out all of the rocks and other things that were in the top spoil I had. If you are looking to do the same and only want to buy one, I"d recommend this size (1/4). It is where the majority of the rocks I sifted were caught. The 1/2 didn't catch anything, though it did break up the dirt in preparation for the 1/4 size. The 1/8 size caught a lot of smaller rocks, but if the dirt you have is too moist, it soon becomes hard to push the dirt through the openings.
Build quality:
These are made of thick plastic and thick wire. They fit perfectly on 5 gallon buckets you would find at most home improvement stores. I was presently surprised since some reviews I read said the opposite. Will they withstand a 20 foot drop? Who knows. Already survived some 6 foot drops with no problem. Cleanup was pretty easy. I just hosed them down. The wire mesh is curved upward towards you and when pushed down on, the plastic lines you see in the picture of the item help support what you put in the item. Those seemed the weakest part of the item, but for what I was using it for it hasn't been an issue for me yet. Also, the space between the mesh and that plastic got lots of dirt stuck in it and was the hardest part to clean. There wasn't enough space for a finger so just use high pressure hose attachments and you should be fine.
Overall, would buy again. I wish they were a little less expensive though. You don't have to buy all three like I did, but as I said before, for sifting top soil, this size is the size you want.
