Originally bought for my children... now it's MINE!
I make a habit of scanning my Kindle Fire for new apps each night before I go to bed. Two nights ago, My Singing Monsters caught my eye. I watched the video on the app store and it basically changed my life. It was pretty late at night and I needed to be up early so I just downloaded it and went to sleep. Fast forward to last night. I tell my six year old that I found a new game for her and her sister and she responded with, "Cool! Let's check it out!" I load it up, sign in as Anonymous, and begin the tutorial while she watched.
The tutorial is awesome and very easy to understand. It walks you through how to purchase new items, care for your monsters, and offers goal after goal which is nice because it gives you something to work towards. So anyway, there I am, playing through the tutorial while my six year old watches, and then I get the popup stating that I completed my little walk through and could now explore on my own. My daughter says, "Okay mom. I think I understand how to play now." *reaches for the Kindle* *I jerk it away from her with a crazed look in my eye* "Just a few more minutes Jada! I have some cupcakes baking and I need to buy some of the monsters favorite things to increase my coin output!"
What?! I couldn't help it! The game play is so addictive!! I think it's the fact that there are so many different goals that need to be completed. Snacks need to be made at the bakery, decorations need to be bought and placed, crossbreeding needs to occur! Which speaking of, this is definitely one of those apps that are like, "Hey you can buy this new breed of monster for the low low price of 30 diamonds! What's that? You only have 12? Don't worry about it! You can buy 220 for the low low price of $9.99 USD!" I hate that. Let it be known however, that you don't even need to spend the diamonds to get new breeds, you can just make them yourself! For free!!
The moral of the story, is that I'm in love with My Singing Monsters and it's ultimately become my app more than my children's! The game play is a bit complex for my two year old who just wants to poke everything with her finger in hopes of getting a response. My six year old completely understands the game play and loves it. She's even found out ways to talk me into letting her play! "Mama, why don't you let me earn some coins for you while you do something else? I'll take good care of your monsters I promise." A wonderful game for parents and children alike. Highly recommend!
