Going to stay at 4 stars/ Update March 2016
I have only had this a couple days and so far it's okay. I replaced a Weather Channel brand after 4 years and a hail storm finally finished off my anemometer. One issue for me keeping it from ever making 5 stars is the delay in reporting. It only gets wind speed info every 18 seconds and direction every 30. It says it has a self calibrating feature that will adjust itself over a 14 day period. It was very far off on the barometer so rather that waiting for it to self calibrate I was very happy that it does offer user calibration so I set it up with local conditions. So far it's not doing a great job of accurately reporting what my airport reports which is only 2 miles away. After calibration it says it goes through a learning process lasting several days. I will let it do it's learning thing and update in a couple weeks. Barometer is very important on forecasting so I need that to be accurate firstly. Calibration for rainfall is a rather tedious task that I will do after I know the pressure is accurate. The display is very easy to read and the "color" screen is clear and bright. I do wish I could turn it off because at it's lowest setting it's too bright in a dark room. UPDATE MARCH 2016: Still the only issue for me is the delay in the wind and even after mounting it 4' above the top of my chimney, wind speed is still not even close to registering the speed, I live in a part of the country where gusts to 60 mph are common this time of year with steady winds of 20 mph, and this consistently shows 8-12 below the real wind. Other than that it's held up great through the winter months and the high winds! UPDATE: I have had the unit for almost a month now and have decided to keep it even with it's shortcomings. It has proven to be accurate for the most part. The weather stations around town vary as much. I put up a couple pictures of where I mounted it. It is not the ideal place because the roof will affect the wind. I'm going to mount it on a pole that extends at least 3ft above the roof line. PROS: I like that it can hold information for a year giving you high and low temps, wind speeds, rainfall... Also tracks rain, wind, temp, humidity, for the day, the week, the month, and year Easy to read color display The fact that it reports so many items, feels like, humidity in and out, barometer, too many to list.... All functions integrated into one unit Allows for calibration of barometer CONS: All functions in one unit meaning that wherever you decide to place it is the place you will have to get to for battery change Calibration for rainfall is rather tedious Wind speed only sent every 18 seconds Mounting hardware that is included. very small short screws so I used bigger ones Screen doesn't allow to turn it off unless you run on batteries. Then it won't stay on! Way too bright for any dark room UPDATE JAN 2015...Just real quick, I am still satisfied with it, We've had 12 days of -10 to -23 since I put this up and the batteries are still strong! Use the ones that they recommend! Lithium batteries are expensive but last and with mine mounted on my roof the fewer times they need changed the better! UPDATE MARCH 2015: After moving the unit to a higher point above my chimney the wind is much more accurate. It had been showing winds of 25mph less than what anyone else in town was reporting. (Yes I live in a windy spot called Southeastern Wyoming.) Still happy I kept it and do enjoy the record highs and lows it tracks.
