Before I met my wife, I was okay as a single. Once we married, I realized what I had missed, being alone. This illustrates how, IMHO, my Dot3 was okay by itself. Once I bought this battery base, I saw what I had missed. Why do you need this base? Let me count the ways: 1. Ultimate portability. With four blue lights showing a full charge, I can nosh in the kitchen, dally in the bathroom, enjoy Iz in the patio, or snooze in the sack, all with no worries about a nuisance cord to contend with. Bingo! 2. Confidence in strength. The unobtrusive arm that holds my Dot and base together is a guarantee that the units will not fall apart. I had an earlier Dot setup, using magnatism and a weak electrical connection. I never knew when they might divorce. No problemo with the GGMM. Bravo! 3. Beauty in the eye of the beholder. As I write this review, I am admiring the perfect combination of grace and function. I am so impressed with how the designers made a necessary power source look like fraternal twins--born together but retaining separate identities. Bravissimo! 4. Magic button. If it's bedtime, and you still have four blue lights, you can push the button on the front of the base, and the base and the Dot get shuteye, right along with you. then upon arising, hold the button two seconds, and Voila! you haven't lost even a smidgen of the power from the previous evening. Be aware that, if you leave the Dot on overnight, you will deplete your battery. Also know that even with only one blue light, your Dot will still function perfectly, but you don't know for how long. At that point, you need to be putting the cord to work and recharge. Button Power! I sincerely hope this review will help someone who is considering purchasing the GGMM D3 battery base. Do I recommend it? You bet yer' booties! My three words: "CUT THE CORD". Of course, that's metaphoric.
