The power of a book...
I absolutely LOVED this book. I've been looking for a book that would keep me on the couch reading all weekend, something that I haven't been able to find much lately. I happened to see this one mentioned in an e-mail, so I picked it up on a whim, read it on a weekend, and fell in love.
I'm not even sure I can articulate why I loved it so much. It was as vivid as a movie; I felt like I was IN WWII-era London, waiting for the bombs to fall and watching the destruction when they did. The characters were likable, brave, and heroic at their cores, but not perfect by any means. And of course, as a reader, the power of words to comfort and distract is a message I enthusiastically endorse.
My only disappointment? When I immediately looked for more books by Madeline Martin to read and found that the only books available were steamy romances. Which I'm sure are very well-written, but I just don't read that genre. Please, Ms. Martin, write more superlative historical novels like The Last Bookshop in London. I'll be first in line to buy them!
