New research shows that NIAGEN helps with Brain health
New research on Niagen (or Nicotinamide Riboside or NR) comes out fairly regularly. However, it’s the human clinical trials that are the huge ones we wait for.
Search for “The NADPARK study: A randomized phase I trial of nicotinamide riboside supplementation in Parkinson’s disease”
This phase 1 placebo controlled human study was just released and it shows that Niagen does raise NAD in the brain, affects cerebral metabolism, and reduces inflammation in fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord. The patients suffered from Parkinson's and even had improved MDS-UPDRS scores.
This was after only 4 weeks taking 2 x 500mg of Niagen per day.
I’ve been taking Tru Niagen for almost 4 years. The first 2 years I took 300mg/day but then increased due to the studies which say that your NAD boost is dose dependent. I had blood work done last year and it’s either the same or better than all my blood work going back 13 years. A few of my markers that had been trending outside the ideal range (good cholesterol, platelets, etc) have since changed course.
It’s good to see real peer reviewed clinical research that supports my anecdotal experience taking Niagen. In this case, it’s that in 4 years, I just don’t have those brain fog days after lunch. Instead when I want to focus on work, I just focus on work.
Aside from feeling more mentally sharp, I believe that Tru Niagen has given me a host of other benefits from more energy, to better hair and skin, to increased immune response (by the way you should also search “Combined Metabolic Activators Accelerates Recovery in Mild-to-Moderate COVID-19” where in a phase 3 double blind human trial, NR plus 3 other things in a cocktail sped up covid recovery).
You do need to just take it regularly and wait a couple months. For me it took maybe 6 months before I felt like numerous benefits were noticeable.
Also, you need to know it’s not going to make you a super hero. It’s not a quick fix for an unhealthy lifestyle. You do need to really pay attention to your body to notice. For me, I noticed by observing my life honestly and saying wow this is a time when I remember saying no to things before - no thanks I’m not feeling up for a night out, no I’m too tired to clean out the garage today, no let’s not goto the park and throw the football around. While now, I feel like my default answer is yes - yes I’m going to tinker with my hobbies after the kids have gone to bed, yes let’s organize that garage sale, yes I’d love to do a long bike ride.
Then there’s some days when I truly surprise myself. Like for example, waking up at 5am, driving the family to whitewater rafting, rafting till about noon, take the family to lunch, drive back to the cabin, clean the cabin for 3 hours, load up the family and drive home arriving at 11pm where I wasn’t drowsy at all on that drive. At the end of days like that I think wow, this is the kind of stuff I did in my 20s. I just feel good. But it’s really hard to pin this to Tru Niagen unless you take it over a long enough time and take a very high level and honest view of your own life. Anyway that’s how I was ultimately convinced.
