Bower brings it …
This book is meticulously researched. This author has written other books about royals and celebs, and he has (so far) never lost a libel lawsuit. The book did change my opinion on the Duchess, particularly in reading about her relationship with her father. I had initially given her the benefit of the doubt with regard to her family, but as they say, it takes two to tango.
It’s clear that Bower is no Meghan fan. When you read the sometimes mind-numbing descriptive evidence of her character, it’s no wonder. The end notes and citations are extensive. If you are not a Meghan fan, this book will confirm all your suspicions. If you are a Meghan fan, this may outrage you or you’ll just dismiss this book as another character assassination of the Duchess.
And yet for all the scoop, I was kind of bored – or maybe just exhausted – by the time I got to the end of the book. Plus, I’m not sure what the title refers to … whose revenge are we talking about?
I got the impression from this book that the machinations of the Duchess are lodged against anyone who gets in the way of her ambitions. So is she really bent on an unprecedented level of revenge against the royal family? Or, is this simply another offensive against an opponent who themselves has more than a few centuries of experience with taking and staying in power?
