I too had a problem with that he separation of the first page which pulled the binding away but quickly realized it was operator error. Our instinct is to pull that first page back where the edge of the paper meets the same edge of the cover. But since it is glued as all books inner pages are glued to their cover, it needs to be folded back at the point where the glue meets the book cover and you would never have this problem. Don't try to pull it back further than it wants to go. Just put a fold on that first page right where it is glued down to the cover. I inquired about whether this was 100% cotton and Pentalic replied to me within 48hrs to tell me it indeed is not and quickly had the misprint corrected on the Amazon advertisement. Paper is still excellent. Each IS SEWN into its signature and are like any well made book. The tooth is the same from front to back of page with great consistency. I have used Strathmore, many varieties, Global Arts books, many varieties, Moleskine, Stillman and Birn, and others and I will tell you that this is my book of choice. It has the heaviest paper, with no warping, and takes wet into wet washes very well. Moleskine is only 120or 130# paper and warps like crazy. This paper will not. And it lays perfectly flat no matter where you open it. As an artist I will tell you it is excellently made and withstands abuse. Color lifts easily, it will take scrubbing, etc. There is a poor review below and I ask that you ignore it. This person obviously angry for not receiving a response sooner after an employee issue, and doesn't know how books are made, misspoke about the signatures, as well as tore their cover away from the binding. So, I felt I needed to write this review. I am an avid sketcher and have tried so many books. Pentalic is my go to book and I use no other anymore. If I had to compare this brand of Aqua journal to any other company I would compare it to Stillman and Birn yet I still prefer this company.
