Improved Ferritin levels and RLS symptoms
My 4yr old was diagnosed with restless leg syndrome after doing a sleep study. The doctor suggested checking his ferritin levels before anything else. Sure enough his level was 9. Range is 5-100 and they like to see them at 50. He’s not anemic, it’s his iron storage that is the issue and this directly affects dopamine which in turn affects RLS and his sleep. We went almost a year of miserable sleepless nights. After only 4 months his ferritin went from 9 to 24. His sleep had improved dramatically! I am giving him 4 Renzos in the morning and 2 at night along w Flinstone with iron. His doctor is extremely pleased and we will keep him on the same regimen for the next 3-4 months and then have him checked again. If he is closer to the 50 at that time his doctor said we would just do the flinstone with iron for maintenance. Also my older daughter has some behavior issues, ADHD among a few others. I mentioned to her psychiatrist about her brother and he said the ferritin issue can be hereditary and we should check her. Sure enough she’s barely on the scale. I’m starting her on Renzos as well. I’m hopeful that this will help her behavior issues. There are many studies related to ADHD and low iron. I wish I would had known some of these things a year ago so hopefully I can help others out looking for answers. Good luck!
