This kit comes with everything you need to conduct your own blood type test at home. The results are very simple to read and determine. I love that it comes with an Eldoncard cover to preserve the results! The kit comes with everything you need to perform the test yourself, but if you are uncomfortable with any part of the process, make sure to have someone help you! Even I needed help pricking my finger. The only problems I have are with the instructions. To help everyone out I will write a couple tips below: BLOOD FLOW TIP: You should not "milk" your finger (squeeze the blood out) and I hate that the instructions tell you to do this. Why shouldn't you do this? 1.) This causes more plasma than blood to come out. 2.) Doing this could damage blood vessels. 3.) This could actually disrupt the flow of blood, thus making it necessary to prick your fingers again. Be gentle and patient with the punctured finger in order to get a more pure blood sample rather than a plasma-diluted blood sample. To help with blood flow, you could warm up your finger with a warm towel or water before performing the test. LANCET TIP: The second problem I have is the unclear lancet instructions - it does not really tell you how to create a good drop of blood. In order to get a nice drop of blood to form on your finger, place the lancet ACROSS grooves of your finger print, not with them. I will add pictures to illustrate this. Cutting across the grooves of your fingerprints creates a criss-cross pattern which causes the blood to form into a drop and stay there. Otherwise, if you cut along the grooves, the blood will just follow the grooves of your fingerprints and travel down your finger which makes it more difficult to collect. I learned these tips in my college phlebotomy class. I have used these tips myself and are proven to work.
