No pain, works waaaaay better than traditional neti
I used 3 packets and it got rid of a month+ long sinus infecting. I have a deviated septum and my nose is always congested, so a traditional neti just does not work for me because there's no pressure and tilting of the head makes the fluid sit in my ears, causing ear infections. The pressure supplied with this and the ability to use it upright makes it a winner. There wasn't enough packets in this for me, so I ended up buying the NeilMed packets which were cheaper. Start with 1 packet the first use, then 2 on the second. 2 packets will slightly burn for about a minute or so, but it's quite bearable. I did 3 for my sinus infection, but I'm not sure if there's a safe upper limit to how many packets to use. 3 packets burns considerably, but only for a few minutes. Honestly the burn is nothing compared to the uncomfortable suffocating effect of actually using the device, but it's well worth it all for a few minutes of discomfort. I do two squeezes, one for each nostril, so I'm done in less than a minute. I make sure the nozzle is completely covering the nostril (do NOT put into nostril, it's less effective trust me). My head is straight. I hold my breath then firmly squeeze the bottle on the congested side first until water comes out the other nostril. If the congestion is bad enough, ill switch to the uncongested side, blow my nose afterwards, then try the congested side again. Once I've squeezed half the bottle into the nostril - and this part is important - I let gravity drain whatever is in my nose for a couple of seconds, then I sniff really hard to get the drainage to the back of my throat and spit it out. Without this last part, you really will not get much solution to the actual sinuses where it's needed; you'll only clean the nasal passage which is not enough. The solution has to enter the sinuses to be effective. Hope this information helps if it hasn't disgusted you yet :)
