I use this as allergy relief and enjoy the fact that it also makes me sleepy. My 24-hr allergy pill doesn't actually last 24 hours, and since I have problems with dust mites, it's very helpful for me to take something before bed. The active ingredient in Benadryl (and any generic versions) is pretty dehydrating; the doxylamine in this generic version of Unisom is also an antihistamine (which is what Benadryl/diphenhydramine is) and is the active ingredient in Nyquil cold capsules (only the capsules, not the bottles of liquid). I have never found doxylamine as a standalone drug until I found Unisom, where it's branded as a sleep aid, so now I've been buying this for the last couple of years and taking one before bed every night. My eyes are less puffy and I'm less congested when I take it and it doesn't dehydrate me the way Benadryl does; I've been very happy with it and I'm glad I can now buy bottles of it on Amazon.
