My favorite hair tool
I love this curling iron. I'm not sure why I'm seeing so many negative reviews, because this thing is AMAZING. My sister had bought it off of QVC and let me try it out. I fell in love with it and bought one for myself. My roommate (who has super long, stick straight, fine hair) then tried mine...and she fell in love with it, too, and bought her own. Even though I didn't purchase this through Amazon, I feel compelled to write this review to give this curling iron the credit it deserves.
A few notes that may be helpful:
- Yes, this product DOES get super hot (as other reviews have pointed out). But that's also what makes the curls/waves last for so long. With other standard curling irons I've used, I have to wait longer for the curls to form by keeping my hair in the iron longer, and the curls don't last very long. With THIS curling iron, I barely have to keep my hair in the iron for five seconds and the curls seriously last all day. So yes, you have to be more careful to not burn yourself, but to me, that teensy bit of extra care is worth the efficiency of the process and duration of the curls' staying power.
- I've read in other reviews that the "ends of your hair get frazzled." This DOES happen on one side of your hair if you follow the instructions provided, but I discovered a solution to no longer having crimpy ends. The instructions tell you to "always face the clamp inwards" when curling your hair, in either direction. The instructions are WRONG. I followed the instructions exactly at first, facing the clamp toward my face in both directions, and my right side would always turn out nice, while the left side would have weird, frazzled ends. Then I watched my sister curl her hair with the clamp facing out, and her left side would turn out nice while the right side would have crimpy ends. I then figured it out - face the clamp INWARDS (toward your face) when curling your RIGHT side, and face the clamp OUTWARDS (away from your face) when curling your LEFT side. PROBLEM SOLVED - no more frazzled ends!! Seriously, for those of you who are having problems with the ends of your hair, try this. Just always face the clamp toward your left regardless of whether you're using the R or L button.
- I've also read in other reviews complaining that the "clamp is too small." But the clamp being "small" (and not the entire length of the barrel like a normal curling iron) is what helps create the "beachy" waves. Other curling irons create perfect, somewhat unnatural ringlets. If that's the look you want to achieve, then use a normal curling iron. The Beachwaver doesn't create "perfect" curls - it creates natural-looking, loose, soft curls/waves. It's the small clamp design that helps achieve this - instead of perfect one-inch curls, the hair just freely wraps around the barrel. Then when you shake out (lightly run your fingers through) the curls, you get waves. I read reviews where users say that their hair just slips out because the clamp is too small. It DOES take a few practice trials to get used to it, but it's designed that way for a reason. Once you get used to it, even with separating your hair into one-inch sections as recommended, the process goes quickly. It takes me 5-10 minutes to do my hair.
I hope this is helpful...I stand by this product! It IS expensive, but it's so worth it. It's my magic, secret weapon when it comes to near-effortless, awesome-looking hair.
