BUY IT, kinda. (4 month update, 1700 miles + 4 flat + rare light dead). Also bought ES2 recently.
Everyday I am out with this and there is always a conversation that happens because of this. This is my two months update after putting in 979 miles mainly in NYC + plus 1 rare wheel flat tire and tube which happened at mile 973. I did take it to a rural part of CT and it was also a fun short ride as well. Overall still amazing minus the flat! I do not use it in the rain or wet street. I do stay off sidewalks as much as possible. I'm about 5'11 and 165+. It takes roughly 5 hours or so for a full charge. 1 hour charge can give you about 2-3 miles of juice. After 2 months of heavy use, the battery is great! The range distance is 18+ miles on Eco mode which is roughly 9 mph. If you go slower it can stretch past 20 miles range. I never used the regular mode entirely because it's too fast in NYC only during certain occasion I will. On Regular mode I went about 16 mph by the bike path. I'm guessing its a little more than 13+ miles of range on Regular mode. It uses up battery for sure but its nice and fast. The Mi Home App is a must. It connects via bluetooth and shows you the statistic of the bike: how many miles left, how much juice left, how many charging cycles it's done, how many charges it's done. Its very detailed. I recommend you tighten the screws per 100 miles. It can get lose from vibration. If you come to a jerk stop it weaken the stem. Try to do a gradual deceleration. After 4 days/100 miles of use, my stem is slightly lose and makes creek noise. It's normal bc its thin.A lot of weight and force driving forward. It happens on those folding bikes like brompton, dahon etc due to geometry. Always ride with 2 hands on the handle bars. This isnt a bicycle where you can balance with 1 hand. I actually do not listen to an audio on while riding for safety purpose. Is it worth $500?! HELL YEAH. The tires are nice after 900+ miles. Im still testing it. Hope to reach 1,000 miles next and see how the bike performs.
So I after hitting 973 miles I caught a flat tire of the rare wheel. A tiny piece of glass cut through the tire and tube. I rode 6 miles home with a flat tire. It was doable. It was certainly slower. It may have used more battery energy bc of the flat tire and friction made it slower. So riding home with a flat is okay. I doubt riding home with a front flat wheel would be fun bc the motor is there.
Fixing a flat rare wheel was okay but the front wheel will be harder bc it is attached to the power cord. The rare wheel was easy to remove from the scooter. I had a plastic lever and the struggle to take the tire and tube off was unreal. Putting new tire and tube on was even harder. keep in mind I have a plastic lever which usually will do for bike wheels but not for this! You want to have the tube inside the tire when placing it in. Once I had one side in, I had trouble getting the otherside in. I used up 4 hours trying and failing. My hands were so raw the next 2 days. I went to the bike shop the guy had metal lever and it took him 10 minutes to put it in. He even said it was VERY HARD.
Difficulty level of putting tires in is like 14 out of 10! That's the tough part.
update: my first flat happened around 1K miles. a piece of glass cut the tire and tube. Fixing it without a steel lever was rough. It was done. However the replacement tube was defective. Had a slow leak. I came back from a trip and it was flat. I pumped it up and it slowly deflated after 1.5 day then I add more air. Unfortunately this was not going to work forever. Today my tube gave out. In minutes it was flat. Again I manage to ride home. I will be using my final tire and tube that came in the box. Battery life is great.
Update 8/26 I had my 4th rare tire/tube flat as I reach 4 months and 1700+ miles. The front tire has been amazing. Something with the weight, design that has caused the rare to pop this much is a concern. First pop after 900 miles. 2nd after 1300 miles. 3rd pop after 1500 miles. 4th pop after 1700 miles. Again all rare tire/tube. I have bought 2 solid tires. I will see how the solid tire is for the rare wheel. The Rare light died after 1700 miles also bc the tires rubbed the cable under the mud guard. I saw the coil exposed and I was going o add some black tape but too late. The 3d stuff online to help it does not work. I also bought the Ninebot ES2, solid tires. Will be giving it a spin and see the difference.
