Finally a knife to dethrone the Leek as best budget US made knife!
I tend to buy one or two knives a month trying to find the perfect Every Day Carry (EDC) knife. What I want from an EDC knife is a good quality blade that holds an edge well, a small footprint that doesn't take up your entire pocket so that you don't look like Rambo, and a price that isn't exorbitant because carry and use all my knives. I know many people buy knives to collect and keep in new condition, but my sole purpose for owning a knife is to use it. So I don't care if I pay $20 or $200 for it, I want it to function. That being said I really love this knife and here are some reasons:
Pros:
✅ Made in the US! Not many knives at this price point and quality level that are made in the US.
✅ Solid lockup with the smooth action you expect from Kershaw's Speedsafe. The liner lock engages fully and is rock solid.
✅ Fit and finish of this knife is fantastic; absolutely no blade play in any direction and the blade is perfectly centered when closed.
✅ 4 position pocket clip can be worn tip up, tip down, left and right.
Cons:
➖ Back Spacer is plastic and cheapens the look of an otherwise premium-looking & feeling knife
Additional Thoughts (not really pros or cons):
● Uses 420HC steel instead of the typical for this price range 8Cr13MoV Steel. I will be excited when they inevitably release a "Special Edition" version with a premium steel like Kershaw often does for their popular knives.
● While the pocket clip is not a "deep carry" type, the knife is still very subtle in the pocket. I know some people would prefer it to be completely hidden but I am happy with how it sits.
Conclusion:
This knife was designed as a mix between the Kershaw Leek and the Kershaw Link and so I have included comparison pictures between the three knives. As you can see, this seems to be a perfect "Goldilocks" knife; not too big like the Link and not to skinny like the Leek. My one big gripe with the Leek was the extremely thin blade end and this knife has completely solved that issue. The only thing that I think would make this a 5 star knife would be if they had a premium knife steel and a deep carry pocket clip. Those are kind of nit-picky items but in all honestly it is hard to find an issue with this knife. Buy it and you won't be disappointed.
