I really like the design. It easily and sturdily attaches to a wire cage (I've used it with both horizontal and vertical bars). The cord is wrapped in metal a couple feet down. It's enough to keep little beaks away, but bigger or more determined birds will likely bend the wire and ruin the cord/get a shock. The long cord is great as I have a 65" tall cage and I still have a couple feet of slack. The small size is perfect for a GCC. I live in the north and thought I would buy this and leave it on throughout the night, hoping it would heat nearby perches or enough that when the cage is covered, the top of it would be a bit warmer. It does neither of what I hoped, but it does keep my bird warm and he snuggles it often. It's peace of mind for me, and heats him without burning him, which was my goal so I'm still glad I bought it. It may take several weeks for your bird to discover its purpose and utilize it. My GCC took almost two months to begin using it, but now he leans on it all the time (and often talks to and kisses it before falling alseep).
