I inadvertently ended up with two of these devices at the same time - this one, and the original water pik that my wife picked up from Costco. So, I had both of these side by side to compare. The water pik is a tremendous value. It's very well designed and offers both the machine for the bathroom as well as a portable unit with a case. Here's the thing - I kept this one. Let me explain why. First, the water pik is twice the price (but then you are really getting two units so for all intent and purpose, you are paying the same price for the units). Let's look at the deciding factors for me, First, this unit has the UV Sterilizer. It's fantastic. It works really well and keeps your tips sterilized. The water pik lacks this essential function. Second, this unit actually has suction cups on the bottom so it doesn't move from the vibration when it's operating. The water pik, while it has rubber feet, they don't "suction" in place keeping your unit from moving while operating. Next, this unit really has the power to meet anyone's needs. I've never taken it more than 3, moderately turned up, and it really delivers a high performance stream. Even after flossing, brushing, and rinsing, I alway end up with more food particles coming out when I turn to use this machine. In the end, why did I pick this one over the water pik? It was simply, it came down to the UV light and it suctioning in place. I have had both knee joints replaced. It's really important that my mouth is kept clean to avoid infections that can easily find their way there. So, the UV light is #1. I've had units that moved around on my sink and it's a pain in the butt when using so having the unit suction in place and not move and inch- hah! the icing on the cake. THZY is a five star unit. It's built well. It hits it on critical features and now, just for writing the review which I would have done anyway, I am getting a full set of free tips - not bad.
