We have roof rats that seem to be pretty intelligent and elusive. All I know is that they are in fact, like most rats, neophobic. I’ve caught some with the traditional, common wooden snap traps, but it took leaving them unset for a week and setting them for another week until they finally gave in. They didn’t always snap on them in time either. With this trap, you don’t gave to worry about leaving them unset for a while, because they have to go way in to set off the trap. So they don’t have the time to “un-trust” the trap. I left this trap set for a week with pizza as the bait before I caught the biggest rat I have. They are the hardest to catch since they are the oldest and wisest. I’ve been trying to catch this big one for a while. Of course, i got the big version of this trap. I love how they are cleanable and reusable, too.
