Definitely Recommend! Holding Up Well! RIP 6/7/20
Pros: -Easy to remove purple top and scoop waste -Handy button that will rake if there's a foul smelling waste and you can't wait 20 minutes for the auto-rake. -Maintenance is minimal I scoop out waste once a week for two 11 pound cats and change litter once a month. (Used to scoop 2x a day and replace my old clay litter weekly) -Uses crystal litter which is so much better than clay (no dust, no litter smell) -Rake is easy to clean if your cat decides to go on the rake and it sticks Cons: -Pushes litter into waste tray so you need to add new litter more than necessary -The disposable litter trays are crap get a permanent tray and save yourself time $$$ (I use the LitterWorks® Permanent Scoopfree® Compatible Litter Tray Heavy duty) -Will not work for cats who have frequent diarrhea it'll just cling to the rake -ScoopFree crystal litter is over priced. (7/8/17 Update: Ive found ExquisiCat® Micro Crystals Cat Litter from Pet Smart to be the best. It has the texture of sand not small pebbles like scoop fresh. Plus it's cheaper than Fresh Step from Walmart that has that pebble texture. Pet Smart also gives 10% off the already cheaper price just for in store pick up) (2/26/20 Update: I have switched to Vibrant Life Mini Crystal Unscented Cat Litter, Walmarts brand, it is cheap and works just as well as the ExquisiCat®) *I also use Merry Products Cat Washroom Bench to house my litter. It helps hide it, keep odors in, and prevents my cats from throwing litter every where. Picked up this box about a day ago 1/2/17. Love it so far!! I read a few reviews about peoples cats hating the crystal litter. Luckily my cats took to it instantly. I'll definitely be getting a permanent litter bottom because I'm not paying 50$ for 3 disposable ones. I have two cats and plan for this to last at max 2 weeks. I wouldn't use if your cat has frequent diarrhea as it'll clump in the rake. Also the magnets seem weak and occasionally fall from the metal on the litter pan. I bought 5$ nickel magnets with holes in the middle so I could screw them in to place and that fixed the problem.(I've discovered the original magnets aren't weak just the metal on the scoop free disposable litter trays are crap. When I updated to my permanent litter box I stopped having any falling issues) ***I will update with how it lasts long run and what permanent litter tray I've purchased. 2/27/17 Update: This litter box is holding up well! The not having to scope it for a full two weeks is definitely a stretch. Before I bought the LitterWorks® Permanent Scoopfree® Compatible Litter Tray (Heavy duty) I had to scoop their poops out once maybe twice a week. The rake also has a tendency to push the litter into the waste trap. With the permanent tray I have the same two issues however since the lid is not connected to the box it makes this step so much easier. I can just remove the purple lid and scoop out my two cats waste. The ScoopFree disposable trays connect to the disposable box so when you needed to scoop you'd have to remove the purple lid, lift the litter itself(the two white hooks prevent you from just lifting the cardboard flap where the magnets attached), and then lift the cardboard flap to scoop. My new routine is to scoop out their waste, spread the litter around, and add more crystals if necessary once a week. You can use any crystal litter as long as its none clumping. I fully dump and replace the crystals once a month. Once a month is great considering I have two 11 pound cats and before I was scooping twice a day and replacing all their litter weekly. The crystal litter really is so much better than clay clumping litter. There's no more litter dust(although buyer beware some crystal litters are dustier than others) and my house never smells like litter!! 1/30/18 Update: The litter box is still alive and well! After months of trial and error the best crystal litter for my forever tray is ExquisiCat® Micro Crystals Cat Litter. It’s smaller than scoop frees crystal litter and solved the rake pushing the litter problem. I buy it when it goes on sale at PetSmart and stock up. No smell no dust! Cats continue to use it and no issues with the box or permanent tray! 2/26/20 Update: The litter box is till functioning! The rake now has a squeaky/clanking noise when it rakes but it isn't too loud. There is no rust on the rake and everything functions normally! I've switched my litter brand to Walmarts crystal litter (Vibrant Life Mini Crystal Unscented Cat Litter). It's cheaper than the ExquisiCat® and functions just as well. Realistically I am fully changing the litter every 2 weeks with 2 13 pound cats. You could let the litter go longer but you need to scoop the waste out(or it'll over flow) and add some sort of litter deodorizer as it'll start to get a mild litter smell. 6/7/20 Update: The litter box has finally broken. The rake has been getting clunkier sounding and now will not go back to its start position. It’ll get stuck halfway and will not fix itself. Leaving me to find days of poop stuck on both sides of the rake to clean up. I’ll likely be ordering the generation 2 box soon to replace it.
