I'm lucky enough to still have a pair of aging Sony MDR-W08's, which I use regularly at the gym. So, I was able to make a direct comparison between the 2 headphones. Physically, they are essentially identical except that the quality of the plastic for the headband seems a bit lower on the Sonxtronics. The sound between the two, however, is not identical. The bass on the sonxtronics does not go as low as the Sony's by quite a bit. The sound from the Sony's is unmistakably fuller, but since I always thought the Sony's bass was a bit muddy, this is not necessarily a bad thing. The rest of the sound is just as clear and not distorted at all. Something else worth mentioning is that the sonxtronics have to be turned up more to get the same sound level as the Sony's. Ultimately, I would have to say the sound is definitely different between the two, but not by that much and certainly not to the tune of $150 or whatever I would have to pay to get another pair of Sony's. So go ahead an order these, I don't think you will be disappointed. I wasn't.
