So far so good, but pricey
We got two of these to deal with the poo from our three 10mo American Bandogge pups: Atlas, Olympus, and Kronos (all litter-mates, but one is an after-the-fact rescue whose other homes didn’t work out).
Our soil drains really well, so we only ended up installing one for now, and we only dug down to where the soil gets really wet/permeable (about 3ft instead of 4 for the center hole). It’s too much digging for August in the Mid-Atlantic to want to do both at the moment. We’ll see how well it keeps up once our bois are full size (up to 150lb each) and install the other one if needed, but so far so good.
We put it in their “potty yard,” and trained them to go in there to do their biz, so it’s only a few steps with a loaded shovel to get to it.
I took one star off for how pricey this is for what you get. As other reviewers have said, we probably could have achieved the same effect with $10 and a trip to Lowes.
If you’re wondering how many to get for multiple dogs, I would advise you to test how well your soil drains first. Dig the initial hole (18”x18” square, 14” deep), then fill it with water. The average drainage time should be 24 hours. If it drains faster, you can probably put more dog waste in each Dooley, if it drains slower, you probably need extras.
Also, we bought the super digester enzyme, but once that’s gone we may just try basic active dry yeast. It’s what we put in our own septic system annually to keep it running smoothly as per the recommendation of our septic guy. Don’t know how well that’ll work, but we’ll give it a try.
