We needed something in the kitchen for food storage because there are only cabinets above the sink for dishes. I also wanted a drawer for dish towels, and it had to house my toaster oven. I looked at every similar option on Amazon, and they all had some pretty terrible reviews. So I decided to just get the cheapest one that I liked and go for it. I'd rather have inexpensive junk than overpriced junk.
Item arrived quickly, the box was a little beat up but it was packaged well and nothing missing or broken. I had a serious chuckle while taking pieces out the box, remembering the review complaining of how the styrofoam made such a huge mess. This thing has glass doors, would you prefer they not use styrofoam? I just cut box open and lifted each board out, carefully brushing them off over the open box to remove the small loose particles and when I was done I folded the box back up and carried it out to the garbage with all the debris inside. Just use a little common sense.
My first serious advice would be do not start putting this thing together at 11pm like we did. It took my spouse and I 4 hours to complete the project, with a 15 minute sandwich break halfway through. There's a ton of pre-assembly to do with all of the hardware. We didn't run into any serious problems like missing predrilled holes, but a few of the holes for wooden dowels were slightly too big so we just stuffed little bits of toilet paper in them until the dowels fit snug. I know, wood glue would have been better but we weren't making a midnight run to the store for glue.
The instructions were a bit obscure at times, but I think anyone with at least an eighth grade reading and comprehension skill set should be able to get through them. They were by no means as undecipherable as others described. It's my opinion that the people complaining about this cabinet are just too incompetent to be building their own furniture. All in all we're pleased with the end result. It looks great in our kitchen, and it's spacious without being bulky. The only issue is the drawer tries to catch because we couldn't get the screws inside to go flush against the wood, but it's not a huge deal. You just have to give it a firm hand.
The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because I'm disappointed that the handles are only plastic. If you're going to sell me cheap particle board at least give me halfway decent handles.
Edit** I realized that we put the backing on upside down because the precut hole is much too high, but it doesn't matter for us because my toaster oven has a rounded back so it can hold a full sized pizza and I didn't want the cord going across it in the middle anyways. We used a utility knife to cut a small hole nearer the shelf on the side the cord is on so it can go straight back and out instead of up and over that bubble in the back of the oven.
