I bought this to use with my Surface Pro 6. When plugging it in, it immediately was recognized by Windows 11 and my burning software. First I put in an audio CD which played fine. I then popped in a DVD which also played fine. Things got messy when I put in a DVD-R or RW. The disc started to spin and then the connection to the Surface dropped. It would flip between recognized and discovering a new device. After some searching, I realized it might be a power issue. I'm guessing once it recognized writeable media, it started to prep the burn laser which drew too much power for the USB port on my Surface and the device turned off. I bought a cheap USB power hub on Amazon and that fixed the problem. I can play and burn all media just fine now. USB ports on many laptops (and tablets) likely don't have enough power to run a disc burner off. If you're having an issue with this item, a powered USB hub is likely the fix.
