3am Parental Nightmares Cured
Let me tell you a little story about parenthood. parents rejoice when their child is finally able to sleep through the night. i was one of them. it was blissful being able to finally get enough sleep so i didn't look like a drug addict with a coffee mug when picking up the mail. the bags under my eyes became less purple. i was able to speak clearly without having slurred words like a plastered alcoholic. it was a wonderful time for me. my child was hitting all the benchmarks they needed to, and we kept having to up diaper sizes. some a bit early because holy crap, that's a lot of pee for a child that size.
that all ended abruptly when my child started waking up in the middle of the night. i chalked it up to night terrors and rolled over after initial checks determined nothing. then came the 2-3am wake ups and my old zombie of a self came spiraling right back into madness. i became a fleshy robot where my body would wake up long enough to change a child's diaper and then pass out again while my brain attempted to boot up. the only problem was that if my brain booted up, then the rest of sleep for that night was shot in the foot with a Luger and the following day would be a fun example of what a zombie apocalypse can be.
in desperation, we reached out to relatives asking what to do and one of them sent us a box of these sticky-less hygiene pads. it seemed a bit odd that something that makes the kids diaper look like they've already taken a dump would be enough to allow for a solid night of unconscious adult bliss.
guess what, dear reader? it WORKED. sticking one of these in each night before my child goes to bed has allowed a full night of sleep from 8p-6a for them and it feels like heaven. sure, kiddos diaper in the morning looks like they're hiding fiberfill in it for how full it is, but they can sleep through the night and that allows us, the parents, a wonderful night to sleep.
