Reviews for smokers.
Not sure why the reviews on this item is so polarized. Maybe some customers simply had bad luck and got a bad unit?
It's only about 7 inches in height, width, and length; quite a small unit. So I'd say it'll be pretty unrealistic to really expect it to deodorize a spacious area. The electrical cord attached to it is about 6 feet long. No assembling required. You simply unlock the grill from the bottom to replace the filters. It uses 3 filters at a time.
Package comes with 3 normal filters and 1 scent pack; the "normal" filters that come with it do not trap odor well, and the scent pack actually smelled pretty horrible. I bought the "tobacco" filters seperately, it comes with 4 filters per pack and cost about $18 to $20. Not sure how long they last though since I only recieved the item 2 days ago.
I'm a pretty heavy smoker(not something I'm proud of), but I don't smoke all around the house, I only smoke at my computer desk. So I placed this unit about 2 feet within where I usually smoke, and it does a beautiful job sucking in the smoke that burns off from the cigarette AND the smoke I blow out. But as all smokers know, smoke will always find a way to drift off to other areas, so this unit doesn't get rid of the smell entirely. Nonetheless, I'd say it improved my situation by 90%. Although it gives off a light distinctive "filter" scent, it's nothing unbearable(certainly better than the lingering cigarette smell).
It is also very quite, doesn't even have a low humming sound. Unless you tug it into your chest and feel it's light vibration, you wouldn't even notice it's on.
Bottomline: Don't expect it to work miracles, it's a small machine that does very well in a 7 by 7 area. MUST purchase "tobacco" filters if you want better results.
