Works Amazing and Works with my Existing Pencil Compatible Case
UPDATE: As of August ‘21, keyboard started having intermittent connection issues over the last few months and has finally died after about 3 years of extremely light use. I’d use it maybe once a month for the entire time I had it and it spent most of its life in my backpack. While they function great initially, these keyboards seem to be very fragile, so keep that in mind. All the stuff I said below still applies, but weigh the quality issues against the cost. Luckily I was able to find a refurbished replacement for less than $50 from a different seller. There is no way I’d pay any more than that for a replacement at this point. I just got this in today (Saturday afternoon) after ordering late Thursday night. I did a lot of competitor research – mostly because I was hoping a could find something that had solid reviews, but wasn’t so expensive. $150 for an iPad keyboard is a tough pill to swallow for a lot of people and I understand why. I considered others and thought hard about the Logitech keyboard, but didn’t really want to deal with anything connected via bluetooth. Concerns with other less expensive offerings focused heavily on unresponsive keys and missed keystrokes for those who type fast. There are other keyboards that really add a lot of bulk and weight to the setup and I didn’t want that either. Lastly, I read a lot of reviews for keyboard/cover combos that offered front/back protection, but those always seemed to have issues with the hinge breaking after a few months of use. Reviews for the iPad Smart Keyboard were mostly solid when it came to connectivity and keystroke responsiveness and to me that was something that had to be good if this was going to be worth the cost. One common complaint about the Smart Keyboard is that it doesn’t offer any protection for the back of the iPad. This is true. However, you can use the Smart Keyboard in combination with other iPad cases that will give you the back protection you need. Many other cases, such as the one I use, leave the magnetized side of the iPad open for a connection to the Smart Keyboard. I happen to use the Crystal Clear Poetic Lumos Flexible Soft Transparent Ultra-Thin Compact Resistant TPU Case because it has a holder for the Apple Pencil. So, to recap... I’m using the Smart Keyboard, which is functioning beautifully. It’s actually easier to type on this than it is on my 2016 MacBook Pro 13. The keystrokes are responsive and I’m able to type as fast as I can with any other traditional computer. The Smart Keyboard works with the case I was already using, which also has a holder for the Apple Pencil. So, I’ve got the protection I need for the back of the iPad, the pencil won’t get lost and I have the absolute best option out there for an iPad keyboard. I’m including multiple photos to show you all how well this setup works. If you want to get the same case to go with the keyboard, I previously used the exact item description so you can all search easily. I have a hard time believing anyone would be disappointed with this keyboard if it’s set up the way I’ve just described. Good luck and happy typing!
