Portable, comfortable, great battery life
Edit 2020-01-09: Newer versions of this headphone have much less comfortable vinyl earpads. I hope they'll go back to the fabric-over-foam pads, but somewhat less happy with these on repeat purchase. My old favorite cheap headphone was the awesome Motorola s305. I probably bought 15 pairs of them over the many years they were in production, so when they stopped being manufactured I was pretty bummed. (I'm hard on headphones, I tend to break or lose them frequently because I bring them with me everywhere.) I bought three sets of small bluetooth behind the neck headphones hoping to find a good replacement. These are definitely it. The earpieces are a bit bigger than the s305s were, which I thought was going to be a hit for portability. However, these have hinges that actually allow the neck boom to fold, making the folded headphones actually smaller than the s305s. The ear pads are the most comfortable of any of these. They have the standard cheap earphone foam, but it's covered in what seems to be the material used to make junior high gym jerseys. The combination is surprisingly comfortable, and feels very durable. (I'm not worried about the foam pulling out like it did frequently with the s305s.) Battery life is tremendous. I use my headphones daily, walking around the house in the morning before heading in to work, to and from my car when commuting, and whenever I'm doing grocery shopping or walking around to such as lunch. I gave these headphones a full charge before I started using them, and they didn't die until a full month after I bought them. (Sorry I can't translate that into hours of use, but that's easily double what I used to get out of the Motorola headphones.) Bluetooth pairing is faster than any other devices I have, and even seems more solid if I leave my phone somewhere in the house and walk around. Controls are good. I prefer discrete buttons for volume and previous/next track, this uses a shared rocker switch with hold for prev/next. Not the end of the world. I don't actually know how to activate the "Phone" function, but it's not something I ever use. It seems to be shared with the play/pause and power button. My only quibble is the little rubber flap that's supposed to cover the USB micro port for charging. I could never quite get it to seat back into the port, it would always pop back out pretty quickly. I eventually just pulled it off, it was more trouble than it was worth. (I'll report back if I end up with so much gunk in the USB port that charging becomes a problem. I'm also curious how the wire running through the hinges is going to hold up over the coming months. No sign of it weakening yet, but if I had to guess what's going to break on these first, my guess would be one of those wires. But let's be honest, I'm likely to lose these long before it fails from cable fatigue. I came here today to buy another pair of these because it's definitely my replacement for the discontinued Motorola headphones, so I figured I owed them a review. The s305 is dead, long live the SH03.
