Fabulous- with some extra info that I would've wanted to know
I asked my hairdresser about getting a perm because I LOVE how my hair looks when it's curled. She said to get hot rollers because my hair wouldn't hold a perm and I was really thinking that a perm could be a huge disaster. So I began my hunt to find the best hot rollers for what I'm looking for. I'm not the kind of girl who spends a lot of time on my hair and appearance. Don't get me wrong, I want to look nice, but I don't want to spend hours on myself. I give myself about half an hour to dry my hair, do my makeup and style my hair. It's adequate and oftentimes takes much less than half an hour. I have long, thick hair (more than halfway down my back) and I wanted to do my research before investing in a product that may or may not work. I took advantage of the Amazon reviewers and asked some questions that I couldn't find mentioned in the products' reviews-and I looked at a ton of reviews. These are some of the things I would've liked to have known beforehand: With my long, thick hair, I use about 16 of the rollers. I ultimately went with this Remington model because I didn't think that 12 rollers would be enough to cover my entire head of hair- and I'm glad I did. I would've found it very difficult (almost impossible) to get all my hair into 12 clips and I wasn't willing to buy two sets of the product. Maybe I have a big head- that's what my Mom always told me, at least. Anyway, I asked those who had previously purchased the product how many rollers they needed to do their entire head. Many said 12 was a sufficient amount, while others said they required more. The size of the rollers (1.25 and 1.5, I believe) create more than adequate curls. I was afraid I'd get the poodle effect if I got smaller rollers but I think I could've gone down to 1 inch rollers and it still would've looked great. I think anything bigger would be too much- I'm looking for curls, not waves and I think a lot of the reviews for the "jumbo rollers" that Conair offers (and the other product I was debating over) said it creates a wave-like effect. The rollers get hot. That may be obvious but I wasn't really prepared for my fingers to burn. I don't want to dissuade anyone from getting this product though. I would definitely still buy it knowing it burns my fingers but I don't think it's the product's fault. I'm still new at it (I've only had it a week) so maybe I'm too slow at putting the rollers in. I'm definitely still learning but I would've liked to emphasize that the plastic part of the rollers gets extremely hot and I may be purchasing those heat resistant gloves to save my fingers a bit. Again, the end result is totally worth it. The clips don't leave an indentation in my hair, except for the front where I have my bangs encased. I'm assuming the small, short hairs of my bangs are what causes the indents because I don't have the problem anywhere else. The clips don't hold the hair fantastically well, they do an okay job but I'm thinking of buying a pack of the other clips to see if they work better. I don't think it gives me a secure enough hold. I would definitely get the clips over the u-shaped metal things that other hot rollers come with. Last thing, I have purchased a gel from Treseme that holds curls and I found that has given me the best result- allowing the curls to hold all day (which they definitely do). I tried it once putting no product in my hair beforehand and spraying it with hairspray after the curls were out but the hot rollers didn't hold my hair as well because my hair is really soft (in a bad way) and everything slips out of it (clips, pony tail, hot rollers). I would strongly recommend purchasing mousse, hair gel or some kind of hair product that will give your hair the hold it needs to work with the hot rollers but also to ensure the curls stay in your hair all day. I found some video tutorials on youtube that really helped me get started with the hot rollers. I've never used them before and those tutorials really helped. There's quite a few uploaded so for anyone who feels lost, those really help. Also, there are some who are using this specific model which helped me after I finally decided to buy the Remington model. Overall, I think this is a solid product for the price. I'm so happy with my hair being curly and I'm ecstatic that it only takes 5 minutes to put it in the rollers and I leave them in my hair for 12 minutes and they come out great. I have told two friends about the product and they're really excited to try them out on their hair. I'd definitely recommend this product because it really does a great job and the price is amazing.
