One off the best on the market but has a few issues
One off the best on the market
Started off with scale modeling in the late 70's with Humbrol /Airfix enamel paint
Slowly switched to Acrylic and the acrylic paints have come a long way
The set, colour-wise is quite complete and should give most modelers a great range
The pigments are extremely small and the paint goes on like “butter”
They need very little thinning but the correct thinner is fairly critical to professional looking results
I use 49% windshield washer fluid, 50% water and a few drops of glycerin to break the tension
Windshield washer fluid is basically a mixture of alcohol and water, the “blue” stuff can be purchased at any Dollar store (1 gallon plastic jug)
Glycerin can be found at Walmart (do not put too much glycerin or you will get a “fish-eye” effect)
Although this set is meant for brushing (Vallejo has AIR paints especially for air-brushing) , I had no problems using the paint in my airbrush
Again, use my thinning formula
Price wise this set translates to about $2.50 per paint bottle and is a bargain for these quality paints
Although I consider the Vallejo paints top notch, there are some issues!!!
The blue and the ocre do not dry flat and have a nasty plastic looking sheen
This a common known issue with some of Vallejo's flat paint
To solve the issue you can mix a little bit of Tamiya Acrylic X-21 flat base with your paint
X-21 is NOT a varnish or paint, it is an acrylic flatting agent that needs to be mixed in with your acrylic paint to make it flat
