To use this aftermarket accessory, you'll need to go to use an original Apple TV remote to get to Settings > Learn Remote. If you've lost the original remote & if you are using this because you are trying to replace original apple TV remote (due to cost), this is NOT your product. You'll need an original Apple TV remote--you'll have to get one at the Apple store--to access the Apple TV and get to Settings > Learn Remote. This will NOT work if you put the battery in and hit any button - won't sync-- the Apple TV needs to "learn" this aftermarket remote. This is your product, say, if you have an original Apple TV remote i.e. you have two or three Apple TVs and are using this aftermarket remote because you've lost only one remote, this works by going to to Settings > Learn Remote. Again, this remote will ONLY work if you can get to Settings > Learn Remote. I learned this the hard way. I bought this remote thinking it would replace the original Apple TV remote I lost. It didn't because I couldn't get to Settings > Learn Remote. I had to go buy an original Apple TV remote from the Apple store. Lo and behold--once I got to Settings > Learn Remote, this works great. Be warned.
