Gorgeous Look, Lacks in Functionality
The material is very durable and reminds me a little of denim. There's a bit of a sheen to the fabric. The tufted headboard seems high quality, except for the wooden legs. I don't know why the manufacturer chose such a cheap wood. Unless you attach this to your wall or buy new legs, it's going to be wobbly no matter what you do.
The legs are adjustable, so you can raise or lower the headboard depending on the size of your mattress, box spring or bed frame. The box provides bolts, washers, and an Allen wrench and the back of the headboard has pre-drilled holes. Super simple. Just measure and make sure you allow for a little clearance between the top of your mattress and the bottom of the headboard, otherwise you'll have a really fun time trying to make your bed. If you don't measure right, it's really easy to take off the headboard from the legs and re-attach. We did it in under five minutes.
I purchased this headboard with a steel platform frame (search SC-SBBK-14Q+BRKT on Amazon) that comes with headboard and footboard brackets. You do not need a drill for attaching the headboard to the brackets or for attaching the brackets to the bed frame. The bed frame already has the holes in place for attaching the brackets. The headboard attaches to the brackets with bolts, washers, and wingnuts, but you do need pliers to hold the wingnut in place while you tighten the bolt with an Allen wrench (provided). One person can do the job, but it's great to have someone to help you lift the headboard and hold it steady while bolting it to the bracket.
When we get into bed, the headboard wobbles a little. We'd attach it to the wall if not for the fact that we rent. I'm not concerned about it snapping off or cracking, as it's holding in place just fine, but this isn't the type of headboard you can lean against while you sit up in bed. If that's what you want - and who doesn't want that? - then you either need to buy new legs or bolt this to the wall. There's no getting around this, I'm sad to say.
I give it five stars for the look and three stars for the functionality, so I'm averaging to four stars. I'm so pleased with how my bedroom looks, but I just wish that we could lean against it without it slamming backward into the wall. Oh well. You can modify this, though, as long as you're handy or know someone who accepts cookies for handyman services, so this is a great buy no matter what you end up doing with it.
