Lives up to its reputation
So far I am very impressed with the Roborock S50.
* It cleans carpet MUCH better than I anticipated. Kind of leaves tire tracks on thicker carpets but on normal/low pile carpets is cleans well and leaves a very pleasing, even pattern after cleaning. I was not expecting that good of a clean for carpets.
* It does a really good job getting over bumps and minor barriers such as thresholds and such.
* The mapping function works very nicely. I let it first map out the entire house, but closed the doors to areas I did not want it ever going into. (Alternatively, you can just drive it around the house manually to let it map everything, as I note below). After that, the map of the house was saved and I drew in no-go areas and blocked off rooms I did not want it going into. I then opened all the doors I had blocked and let it run again. It looked into the blocked off rooms and did a pretty good map of them, but perfectly avoided all the spots I wanted it to miss.
* Fast and quiet cleaning. Took 90 minutes to cover 1200 square feet. Had about 60% battery left. That was in 'balanced mode' which balances quietness with moderate suction. It seemed very quiet to me but cleaned great.
BTW, my house is about 3000 sqft, but only 1200 of that I have the robot clean. Other is deeper pile carpet I vacuum myself. In order to properly set up virtual barriers and 'no-go' zones, you have to get a full map of the house. So rather than let it try to clean every area and map it, just drive it around manually. There is an option to to use your phone like a remote control for the robot. Press the settings button on your phone (on Android, in upper right, looks like 3 dots). Then scroll down and select remote control. Drive it around as you wish to finish mapping out your entire house. When that is done, return it to its base (press Dock) and it will save the map. Well, it will save the map if you have turned on map saving in settings/vacuum settings! So do that first. Then you can select areas to avoid using the 'Edit' button on your phone app.
Only issue I have had is that the dust bin became full after just over 1/2 of the house was cleaned the first time. By the 3rd time, enough of the dust and cat hair was cleaned up that it was able to make it through 1200sqft without emptying the bin.
Overall, I am really, really happy with this robot.
