Finally, a seat my kids will actually outgrow and I won't have to replace
I have a 5 year old and a 3 year old and just purchased two of these to replace their current car seats in my 2011 Kia Sorento. We have used Maxi Cosi Pria 75, Maxi Cosi Pria 85, and Evenflo Symphony car seats with them in the past.
I want to give a little background into why we have gone through so many other car seats. We had Maxi Cosi Pria 75 first, and I thought they would be the one and only. I loved those seats, the comfort, the feel, the cupholders, but over time they became more and more difficult to adjust the straps, to the point that the company replaced them after having them less than a year. When they replaced them we upgraded to the Maxi Cosi Pria 85, within a few months we started having trouble adjusting the replacement seats too. My husband had just bought a 2013 Ford F150 crew cab, so we decided to move the Maxi Cosi seats into his truck so we didn't have to use and adjust them so much and I bought Evenflo Symphony seats for my car.
I had the Evenflo seats for roughly a year and really disliked them from the start. While the reviews say they are safe, they just feel flimsy and cheap. My son had a tantrum in his Symphony seat a few weeks back and I was sure he had damaged the seat just with the force of his tantrum. The material was also wearing out quickly and showed stains easily. I started asking my friends about what car seats they had and loved, and two mentioned that Chicco was releasing this MyFit the next month and they were both planning to buy it. I usually love reading reviews on things and am not typically among the first to buy something, but the Maxi Cosi seats in my husbands truck really needed to be replaced (the inability to adjust was becoming a safety issue). The night before we bought these we took apart our Maxi Cosi seats and found the strap was fraying internally from the force we had to use to adjust the seats, that was the final straw. We bought 2 Chicco Myfits and destroyed the Maxi Cosi seats, moving the Evenflo Symphony seats into my husbands truck. After having these for a few days, I am already planning to also replace the Evenflo seats in my husbands truck with two more of the Chicco MyFits.
For reference, my 3-year-old girl is 35 inches and 27 pounds and my 5-year-old son is 41 inches and 37 pounds. We just recently turned our 3-year-old forward facing because she was undoing her chest clip and I couldn’t see that she was doing it. I was concerned it may be too big for my daughter as she was on the lower end of the weight recommendation, but it fit her perfectly.
They both installed easily in my 2011 Kia Sorento, they feel sturdy and do not wobble, the material is nice and the same quality as the maxi cosi's and the padding is very comfortable. I love the recline options of these seats. In their Evenflo Symphony seats, both my kids had the floppy head syndrome. They would fall asleep and the angle of the carseats would send their chin into their chest. My son has breathing problems when he gets sick and we are often on long car rides as the closest family is a 1.5-hour drive, so chin-in-chest was not a safe position for him. We almost had to take him to a hospital on a 3 hour drive with a cold because his breathing deteriorated so much in the Evenflo seats. I included some pictures of my daughter asleep in the Chicco MyFit seats, that was my first trial to see if it would pass my requirements of a good seat. They are both reclined to "3" and the seats have them at enough of an angle to keep their heads off of their chest, and comfortably against the headrests. She has comfortably fallen asleep in her seat each time she has been in it for over 20 minutes.
I was unsure of the additional padding under the chest clip and read some reviews where others did not like it. It is mandatory for it to be there and not removable. My 5-year-old has sensory processing disorder and will react to anything he finds even remotely uncomfortable. His review is that they are "the awesomest seats ever." The padding on the chest clip actually makes it easier for me to snap the chest clip together and helps keep them at a proper level (my kids both liked pushing their chest clips down to their belly buttons on the evenflo). So the padding under the chest clip is a huge PLUS for us. The shoulder height of the straps on the Chicco MyFit adjusts along with the headrest, you do not have to thread or rethread it each time. With the Evenflo carseats we have, the shoulder strap height adjusted independently from the headrest, and they would pull down every single time my kids got into their carseat, leading me to have to reach between their body and pull the straps up EVERY SINGLE TIME.
This is the narrowest seat we have ever owned, and while I don’t need to fit three car seats across (I only have two kids and we are not having more), I love the space that this leaves between my two kids. My children are both petite, but I could see these seats being uncomfortably narrow for children on the upper end of the growth charts. My kids both love the armrests, the double cup holder, and the comfort of these seats.
I can’t think of any negatives. It will be interesting to see how hot they get in the summer. We do not have a garage and our summers easily hit 110 F degree days. I usually prefer lighter colored car seats because of this, but then they get dirty so fast. I also haven't attempted to take them apart to wash. Installing the cupholders was simple, they snap and clip into place and they have a button to press to remove them if necessary. Overall, we are in love with these seats. They have the quality that I loved of our Maxi Cosi seats, the straps are a dream to adjust, and they don't have the issues of the Evenflo Symphony seats we still have. I am so happy to have finally found the seats that my kids will actually outgrow.
