It's an amazing tool that actually made it fun to do something I loathe.
I was highly skeptical at first, but long and short of it - this really really works and works amazingly well! We have been rebuilding our home for the past two years after hurricane Sandy. One of last major tasks is painting our second floor bedrooms, bathrooms, laundry room, hallways and closets. In all about 2600 square feet of living area, for which contractors quoted about $6,500 - $7,500 to paint. Given our tight budget, we decided to do this ourselves and explored using a sprayer. After a ton of research, speaking to sales people at DIY stores, and calling manufacturers directly, we settled on the Flexio 890. The combination of power, low weight, ability to adapt to painting objectives (fine vs. wide), support for a large variety of paint/stain types and the cost was why we ultimately made the purchase. It took about ten minutes to figure out how to use it and we hard our first room pained in about 30 minutes. We did do all trim work by hand, but that was our choice, not a limit of the 890 to be able to do trim effectively. I never have painted anything other than a single room before and hated it - truly loathed the entire painting experience. With the 890 I actually enjoy painting - it is very Zen like and I make it a game. So the fact I am having fun while painting, is a bonus. Some suggestions on using the product if you decide to make the jump and give up the old school world of rollers: 1 - Take your time to prep the room careful - use plenty of paper, tarp and plastic and good quality tape. The 890's exhaust blower is powerful and it will cause your protective paper to not stay taped if you don't do a good prep job. This isn't a reason to not get the 890 - just know you have to do a good prep job and life will be easier. 2 - Clean the equipment as soon as you are done - even if you are taking a short break...short being like 10 minutes or less depending on your environment and temperature. 3 - When cleaning, just take your time and be patient - use as high pressure water as you can and also use as hot water as you can...it will get clean and yes it takes some time - but again - make it a game. Pretend you are cleaning the tools of an amazing craftsman - point is - if you clean the 890 correctly it will work flawlessly for years. 4 - When you first use it - experiment with distance from the paint surface and the power settings - always check your power settings. You will swear you set them correctly and realize that you didn't - but like me - it will take you an hour to figure it out - so just do what I say - and not what I did - always check your power settings - especially if paint is clogging the nozzles or spitting out and splattering the wall. Bottom Line: If you are in the market for a paint sprayer, you have many choices - but for me - this thing saved me a ton of money and it really worked great! Our total costs, including the 890, came to about $1250 (including paint, materials, etc.) versus the $6,500 - $7,500 contractors quoted. Next Project: I am going to be painting my garage walls, which are cinder block, it will be interesting how that goes and I am doing some outside furniture that is looking beat-up. Hope this review helped - good luck and have fun!
