We have an autistic 5 year old who is a train fanatic. I'm not exaggerating when I say that trains are his whole life. He has just about every G gauge train and "toy" train set there is (and even an N), but we've never gotten him anything nicer or more expensive until now. He's actually very good with them and has proven he can handle them carefully, so we broke down and bought him his first O scale train for Christmas and it has been an enormous hit!! The engine and cars are very well made and sturdy with incredible detail. It comes ready to run right out of the box which made it a lot of fun on Christmas morning! One of the things we love the most is that unlike many MANY other trains sets we've had, this one doesn't derail, no matter how fast it goes and it can go FAST!! My son gets really frustrated when his trains constantly derail so this is a huge deal for us. The tracks it comes with are high quality and work well. The remote control is great, has a long range and is very use friendly and responsive. It comes with smoke drops as well! The only things I wish were better: The tracks don't go together super easily. My son definitely needs help with that. They can be downright stubborn and hard to push together even for an adult! My husband and I had to tag team! We bought additional track to expand his layout and I'm glad we did even though it's a bit pricey. The bluetooth app is pretty buggy. It's easy to set up but hard to maintain a consistent connection via bluetooth. My son lost interest in using the app pretty quickly. If you're not using smoke drops you have to have the smoke feature switched off. It's hard to remember to switch that off or top it off when the smoke runs out and I'm worried it will damage the engine if we forget. I could do without the smoke feature personally, but I do like that you can use it with or without, and the smoke does work well. All in all I am very happy with this train set and feel like we got what we paid for. My son has been in train heaven! Thanks for making his Christmas, Lionel! Santa gets major points for this purchase. And yes, I purchased it for full price and didn't get it for free or at a discount for writing a review. Hope this helps somebody else!
