How to never lose your skeg!! (Pictures Included)
So the biggest gripe I see is that users are losing their skegs... I honestly don't see how, as it sits very snug on my kayak. Regardless, as a precautionary method this is what I did:
Step 1: Drill a hole in the skeg near the back (i used a plastic form indent from the factory as my enterance point.
Step 2: Get a lot of dental floss, or high gauge fishing line. Take the floss/line and fold it 3/4 times for extra strength and loop it through the hole in your skeg. Knot the one end several times to the skeg. Then for extra strength, coat the knots with super glue.
Step 3: Tie the other end of the floss/line to somewhere on the kayak. Leave some slack as you dont want this putting tension on anything.
Step 4: never lose your skeg again. If it falls of, it will dangle on the string you made until you realize it's off. It is going to take a TON of tension to snap this safety line. At that point you probably have more problems then a lost skeg.
Step 5: Profit!!
