One of the Best Robot Vacuums
Pros: -Self empty dustbin -Mop water tops itself up from the dock -Dock washes the mop pad (customizable frequency) -Superb mapping -AI obstacle avoidance works well (not perfect) -Highly customizable scheduling options -Roborock is great at regular firmware updates to improve their product -Can vacuum low pile carpets/rugs while mop is attached Cons: -Dustbin uses a bag which has to be changed (holding back the potential to be perfect and reason for 4 stars) -Struggles to get dog hair out of rugs on the highest setting (all robo vacs do) This vacuum is great! Roborock has done an awesome job with this vacuum. It is a lazy person’s dream (yes that’s me) to setup a schedule for it to mop and vacuum your floors and the only thing you have to do is refill the water and dump the dirty water when it tells you to. I really wish Roborock would release a reusable dustbin accessory instead of having to use bags as that is the only thing holding it back from being perfect. The S7 MaxV Plus (the model below this one) has an optional reusable dustbin accessory so I don’t see why Roborock couldn’t come up with something for this one. Mapping: Roborock’s mapping is among the best in the industry. You can have 4 saved maps at a time for different levels in your home. It has an excellent quick mapping feature that took 15 minutes to map 1000sqft. Shark took 60 minutes to map the same space. The robot and app will also try to identify rooms based on the environment and even place furniture. I found that it the environment recognition worked okay and got about half of my rooms right, but it only recognized one bed in the master bedroom and I had to place the other items on the map manually. This is not a big deal as I know Roborock will improve this feature over time through updates. The map is very easy to edit and it creates both a 2D and 3D map to view. You can also see a live view of the vacuum on the map while it is cleaning. Scheduling: Scheduling is also rock-solid and everything can be done through the app. You can schedule different times and frequencies for each room. You can also customize the intensity of mopping and vacuuming based on the room it is cleaning. Mopping: Mopping works great on this all in one device. It has a different mop mechanism from all others on the market which give it a big advantage. It does not have spinning mop heads, but rather a flat mopping pad which uses frequencies to vibrate back and forth (similar to a sonicare toothbrush). Since it is a flat mopping pad, it has room to lift up the pad out of the way so it can go over carpets and rugs without dragging the wet mop on them. It automatically recognizes where carpets and rugs are and lifts the mop out of the way. This feature has worked flawlessly which is a huge plus over other mopping vacuums and is unique to Roborock. The robot will return to the dock at a customizable interval to scrub the mopping pad with fresh water which does an amazing job at keeping the mopping pad clean. It also has a water tank built in which refills itself at the dock to keep the mop pad wet during cleaning. Roborock also offers a cleaning solution, which is coming soon on their website if you’d like to use something other than water. AI Obstacle Avoidance/Camera: The S7 MaxV has a camera on the front of it which can be viewed through your phone and it requires a one time physical activation on the robot to ensure security if you don’t want to use this feature. The vacuum also has a two way microphone which you can do video calls through which is nifty little feature to keep an eye on the house or a pet. As for the obstacle avoidance, it works well, but not perfect. As a reminder, Roborock has always done a good job of providing regular software/firmware updates to improve their products so this feature will improve over time. As of right now 5/5/22, the robot will sometimes recognize shadows as objects when it is cleaning under the couch and will sometimes still run over small or dark cords (but does not get stuck on them). However, the vacuum does mark where it detected something on the map and you can even toggle a setting for it to snap a picture of the object it detected (not on by default) which is very handy to see if it actually saw a real hazard. You can also let the robot know to ignore a certain type of hazard at a certain spot if it was a false alarm by editing the hazard on the map. However you need to re-map the whole house in order to have it recognize a hazard at that location again. Overall, I am pleased with its ability to detect and avoid objects that it can get stuck on or tangled in. Vacuuming: This is one of the most, if not, the most powerful vacuum on the market in terms of suction power. There are 4 levels to choose from Quiet, Balanced, Turbo, and Max and then a 5th option which must be manually selected for each cleaning due to high power usage: Max+. Cleaning performance for robot vacuums does not change a whole lot for hard flooring, but can vary more with carpet and rugs. This vacuum is pretty average when it comes to hair on low pile rugs and it left a few hairs behind when I ran it on the Max+ setting with two passes. There was no hair tangled on the brush though which is great. I never expect robo vacs to completely get the hair out of a rug, so it is still a great vac in my opinion. Overall a fantastic robot vacuum and mop that is the best out there in its category thanks to the unique mop pad that can lift out of the way (big advantage over Ecovacs). I know it will only get better from here! Roborock if you read this, please work on a reusable dustbin as that would make this machine 100% perfect.
