Exceeded expectations as an IP camera
I don't know why there are so many complaints about this camera, but I have nothing but great remarks for it. The camera is economical and it does a fantastic job at doing what it is advertised to do. I decided to go for this over a baby monitor because of its remote capability I got this camera to monitor an attic trap for squirrels. It is pitch black up there, and I set the camera down and enabled "black/white", which turns on the Night Vision infrared LEDs. As you can see by the attached picture, it almost looks like I took the picture with a flash! But that picture was taken by the camera in complete darkness. The other great thing is, the pic you are looking at came live from the camera app on my Android phone literally a minute ago. I am 50 miles away from my attic right now, and I am able to connect remotely to my camera and to see live video in complete darkness. How cool is that!! You can change the video quality of the camera. The phone app screen capture that I just uploaded is a low-res picture, because I don't want to waste my phone's data watching a high-res video stream of an attic. I have better things to waste my gigabytes on. Even for a low-res image, you can still clearly see that I have a trap set with nothing caught yet. The other great thing is that the two-way communication is pretty awesome. When I first got this, I set it up in our kitchen to do some testing, and it was really neat to be able to talk to and hear my kids through the camera, as well as see them on my phone/mobile device. The app itself lets you monitor many camera devices at once. The app gets updated, so if you are reading people complaining about how the app sucks, please look at the posted date to be sure they aren't talking about a really old version. It has made some significant improvements during the last year. I will be getting more of these cameras. I'm going to get an outdoor weatherproof version of this camera for the front door area, and another one for security in our basement. You can go to your Windows or Mac version of the control panel for this camera and set up motion detection or audio detection, and it will send you an e-mail if something trips the threshold. I'm going to offer one piece of advice if you use e-mail notifications. You will want to get a free service called smtp2go dot com. They are a mail relay service, which allows your camera to send e-mails to any e-mail account you have. The relay is important because the camera needs a way to log into a service and to generate the e-mail to be sent to you. This was the only tricky step if you want to enable e-mail alerts. Otherwise, everything is straightforward. Camera quality is great, and you can change color temperatures, stream size, audio quality, etc. The app comes in a "standard" and "pro" version, so if you'd like to tweak settings and experiment, pro is the way to go, and both versions are free, no ads to deal with. I've had the app crash on me maybe 2 times during the 100 times that I checked in with the camera so far. So not a big deal to reboot the app should something mess up on the phone. The box comes with a mounting kit, which is cool if you want to stick it somewhere on a wall or ceiling. Just keep in mind you'll need a plug nearby. The power cord is very generous in length, though. I also tested this on my wife's iPhone6 Plus, and it works just as well as the Android app that I use. I cannot find any negatives yet,
