Possible Bad Batch of Flea Medication which causes bad side effects!
I'm leaving my original review below and only giving 4 stars at this time. Unlike the Hartz version which killed one of my cats and didn't pick up on it till it almost killed my other cats, Advantage just had a bad batch when I wrote the review below. At this time, I'm still willing to trust them and as you can see, purchased another set and have applied it to all 4 of my cats and have been watching them constantly, except to write this review. So far, no bad effects, and the best effects since I have been using this product, is no flea infestations. As clean as I am, there are always spots we miss where they can breed, so putting this on your cats, and the cats going into those hard to reach areas, gets this insecticide in those areas preventing a re-infestation. About every 4 months, I swap between advantage and use revolution. This is because revolution which at this time can only be prescribed by a veterinarian, can cover areas that these other versions cant, like tapeworm which your cat can easily get from swallowing a flea while cleaning itself. If you get a vet who tries telling you your required by law to have a heartworm blood test done before they will prescribe this, especially in CA, remind them there is no such law, and that there are prosecutors who are going after doctors who deliberately tell their customers there are such laws, which in California is a fact. I'm not saying not to ever get a heartworm test done, just don't ever let a vet force a test on you in order to get a flea product. I use Advantage for 4 months in a row, then on the 5th month, use revolution. It's not a good idea to use revolution constantly, because fleas can become immune to the insecticide if done so. By the way, if you do have flea problems and are using this, or another product, I highly recommend using a bug repellent that's safe for children for a few days, because the fleas that will jump off the infected pets, will try for other hosts before they die, and using a safe product on yourselves, and children will help prevent getting bitten as well. I started doing this after I noticed we all were getting bitten after the pets got treated, especially in the spring and summer time. I'm not recommending any names because when it comes to my children, I asked their doctor first. You should do the same. Old review: If you bought this product recently and it has lot# KPDBNWK NPDBJ1C I would highly recommend not using it and rerunning it to wherever you bought it from. We have used this brand and type for a long time, and a shipment with this lot that we just received had some serious effects on all 3 cats it was applied to who have been on it for over 2 years. 15 minutes after it being applied to the back of each cats neck, they began foaming and became lethargic and due to serious issues with Hartz products, had experience in quickly rectifying the issue before serious harm happened, which was to quickly rinse each cat with warm water with soap from a shower, not cold, and not a bath, as the medication is oil base and dipping a cat in a tub of water would just reapply it as they came out. Getting the flea medication off with soapy water using a shower is the first step, Second step is to make sure if the cat ingested any, to get something into their stomach to absorb. dilute and lessen the damage be it their favorite cat food, but to also get them to drink a lot of water which can be done by mixing some tuna oil in a bowl of water. Watch the cat and Highly recommend contacting your vet just to be safe.
