Earlier, I bought a VTech cordless phone (cheaper). In a week's time, it stopped ringing on incoming calls. And after that, I couldn't make outgoing calls at all. I bought the VTech locally because of all the bad reviews ... knowing I could return it easily. And when I returned it, I asked them if they had another single-headset cordless phone made by someone other than VTech. This Panasonic unit is what they recommended. This telephone rings well. And I admit to being "surprised" that, on the third ring, I hear a computerized voice reading me the telephone number of the caller. Then, more rings follow. Not that I needed a voice to tell me this (grin) - but it was kind of neat. Headset volume is just right. I'll probably never use the speakerphone ... though it, too, is kind of neat. Outgoing calls are flawless. More expensive than VTech single-headset cordless phones. But, it's hard to argue with success. I realize this has more features than I'd need or use ... but it worked ... and that's the bottom line. This phone is a keeper.
