piyo has been a great ADDITION to my workout week
are you currently doing a program? how active are you? Piyo isn't like any other program. If your used to crazy cardio, running. this isn't that. It can help. if your used to yoga, this isn't that. If your used to lifting weights at the gym....this isn't that. Even bodyweight exercises like insanity or WOD don't provide what Piyo does. Thats whats so great about piyo. I have been taking piyo live classes for about a year. I became a certified instructor a few months ago because I love this format. It has HELPED me in all other areas of my fitness and has helped reduce injuries that I see others getting. It has increased my flexibility and range of motion and inner total core strength so I can run faster, longer, bounce around, in and out, quicker and without injury. (I run spartan race obstacle courses)
Piyo Defined dvd series is great for beginners because it's low impact and really takes you through the moves and modifications and has great progression. If you are more active, or are familiar with basic yoga poses, this may seem slow the first few weeks. (20 minute workouts, a lot of taking and walking you though the moves) the reason for this, is because most people don't have the wrist and joint strength to be in these positions for longer...even top athletes. You still get a great workout, work on flexibility, range of motion, strengthens you from the inside out so you REALLY have to give it the full 60 days before you can see any outside transformation. This is a TOTAL BODY wellness program, with GREAT meal plan.
If you are looking for increased wrist strength, upper body strength with defined sexy shoulders and arms, this is a great addition to your regimen.
I say addition because it does feel like something is missing, I feel like I need more, I am very active. But if you are beginning and need a program...this is great..you get strength, stretch and cardio all in one low impact program that won't take up your entire busy day. If you are an ACTIVE athlete like me, this is a great addition to improve your running times, cut back on injury, and make you overall more elite.
Example:
Lower body is 23 minutes long, warm up and workout. my heart rate was 88-127 burned 77 calories. When you are upside down, your heart rate is way low. 60% of those calories were fat burning calories...
Upper body is 19 minutes long, no warm up. (I like to do these two together, back to back) my heart rate was 90-150 calories, burning 63 calories. 54% of those calories were fat burning calories...
Sweat puts all the moves together and is more like a traditional piyo live class, with a calorie burn in the 350 range.
