I needed to amplify the signal to avoid pixelation during storms and poor weather. When the weather is fine, so is the picture but sometimes in a rain storm and poor weather, it is harder to lock on to a HD signal. HD OTA now days are harder to deal with, in the old days, bad signal usually means just a bit of snow on the tv, now, it's unviewable, pixelation, hiccups, black screens. That's the trade off I guess for the clarity on the screen and better sound in the programs. This is held in high regard in that it amplifies without causing further issues. Doesn't run hot, no noise, other than the extra price to pay, if it helps lock down your signal during all weather, I don't see a reason not to install it.
