So far ... So good
I received my mattress cooler Sunday evening. It is now Wednesday morning. I can't say that I'm sleeping better. I can say, this water cooling system does exactly what it says it will do. I hope that with more time, I will get used to the mat and will be sleeping better because I'm not so hot.
The Pros:
1. I had no problems with set up. The tubes are a good length and a great fit. Very simple assembly.
2. This thing gets COLD when on hi. It's amazing. I get cool enough just running the water without the cooling feature. I love that.
3. It's very quiet. When using the actual cooling feature, it is no louder than a standard small fan. The water pump feature is almost completely silent. I can only hear the "whirring" of water if I put my head close to where the tubes enter the mat.
4. The mat material is thick. I feel no worry when my cats jump on my bed and walk on it. I do do have concerns that they could puncture it if they were really trying.
5. The size of the pump doesn't take too much room on my nightstand.
6. The remote is extremely handy in the middle of the night.
7. There are timers, coolness levels, and other options.
Cons:
1. This is made from polyurethane, therefor, it smells at first and keeps trying to buckle and fold back up. It's getting better the longer it lays flat.
2. It's a plastic sheet. It's not the most comfortable thing in the world to sleep on (even when it's under an actual fitted sheet).
3. It does tend to "shift" under my sheet. Having some way to secure it to the mattress would be good. I'm going to try adhesive hook & loops (the sticky kind).
4. Where the tubes enter the mat, there are two hard, raised nubs (about 1-1/2" tall). It makes me nervous that I'm going to accidentally crush or break them. These would have been better installed in a more flat position.
Update: I bought a 1 3/4" mattress pad to go on top. With the fan on high, the coolness still comes through! I am sleeping comfortably now!
