I went back and forth deciding if I wanted to get a traditional bumper for my son's crib or a breathable bumper and ended up going with the breathable bumper. It's not pretty - it looks like a mix between an ace bandage and a preteen's bra but it's breathable and has some slight padding (I can breath just fine through it) and in the end, I'd rather have ugly bumpers and a breathing baby then not of course. It comes as a 3 side piece and a 1 side piece that you weave through and put together (our crib is slats on all four sides so I used the whole thing). It covers the whole crib fine, but the ends are just butt-ugly. See pics. They could definitely do this differently. Why not make the ends on the back? Cribs are usually pushed up with the back to the wall so that makes the most sense to hide the ends there. But it does it's job. Also, keep in mind the velcro is Hulk-strong, so be careful what gets stuck to it. It made some fuzzy/pulled areas on the bumper when I was trying to install it.
