Stupid simple rice, and more, casserole dish...
We had a round Pyrex casserole dish, which was used primarily for making rice in the oven, that was accidentally dropped and some parts chipped off. Since we didn't want our little one to accidentally get cut on the newly-sharpened surface (or have it explode in the over because of micro-fractures), we felt that we should get a replacement. After spending some time looking at the different options, we decided on buying this rectangular casserole dish.
Since receiving it, almost a year ago, we have baked potatoes au gratin, buckwheat, BBQ ribs, lasagna, taco casserole and, of course, rice in this 2 quart casserole dish. The size of this is very convenient for making meals that could last for a couple of days, but taste like they took hours to prepare. Having a lid with a sturdy handle makes the serving and storage easy; we store it with the lid upside down (handle on the inside) to minimize the height.
In regards to rice, it is 2 cups of water and 1 cup of rice baked at 375 degrees, with lid on, for 45 minutes using this Pyrex dish. The best part about this method is you don't need to stir, just set it and forget it.
If you're in the market for a new casserole dish, then this Pyrex brand dish is definitely a good buy.
