Great for the New DE Shaver!
This is a fabulous razor for someone starting out with double-edge blade shaving, especially if they're used to the old "smash and drag" method from years of using multi-blade cartridge razors. Why? Because this razor is VERY mild and VERY forgiving. While many people recommend the Merkurs for beginners, do yourself a favor and look into the blade gap on this one and the Merkurs. To compare, the Merkur 23C and 28C have a blade gap of 0.025", which is between a 3 and a 4 on a Gillette Super Adjustable (Black Beauty). The Weishi has a 0.022" blade gap, which is the same as a setting of 2 on the same Super Adjustable. The Weishi has the same blade gap as the renowned Gillette Tech, which was made by the millions (and for good reason!) Blade gap isn't everything, but for my face, the difference is night and day.
I see new guy after new guy complaining of razor burn when first starting out because they haven't mastered blade angle and they started off with too much razor. I recommend this razor to every new guy who'll listen. Is it a $200 Stainless Steel work of art? No, but it's not priced like one either, and you know what? It delivers a great shave even if you're a ham-fisted newb.
Yes, the Weishi has a pot-metal head, but you know what? So does the Merkur! For the price, you simply cannot beat one of these razors, and if you find that you want something more aggressive after refining your shaving skills, you'll still have the Weishi when you want something milder and you'll only have spent what, less than twenty bucks? The finish on this razor is beautiful, too.
