Can't beat this insert for the price. I followed a couple suggestions from the other reviews for this product and couldn't be happier with the results. We wanted to add an insert for visual effect only, we did not care about it creating heat. This insert was the best solution for just that. What I did to make this product even better: -bend the metal tab on the back of the unit in about an inch. This will allow you to hear the "crackle" even with glass doors closed. -add a remote control outlet for it to be plugged into. The switch is near the back of the unit and a remote will allow you to turn it on in off without ever touching it. My outlet and remote cost ten bucks at Home Depot. -use a grate to support the unit. It adds to the authenticity. -I put two bags of lava rock in the bottom of my fireplace. This made it look more like a gas insert. I added to small logs to the "pile". One to the front and one to the top. This tones down the brightness of the light show. All in all we couldn't be happier. We've shown this to all of our friends and not one could believe it wasn't real fire.
