Turn it all the way on, then to your desired time
They work like old mechanical kitchen timers so you must turn the timer to maximum first (which winds the clockwork spring) and then to the desired time. Otherwise the spring will not have the power to run the timer back to zero and shut off. I have two of these and run them for 15 minutes. If I simply set them to 15 minutes, they never turn off. I have to turn them all the way to maximum and then to 15 minutes.
UPDATE: Lasted 16 months, operating once a week.
