Like others, I feel as though the book deserves
Words escape me as I attempt to capture how my family feels about this book. Like others, I feel as though the book deserves, the author deserves something more robust than I can muster at this moment. Suffice it to say we LOVED this book. We loved it so much that when it was over my 7 year old cried. He so desperately wanted to hear more about the main characters and what happens to them next.
As a homeschool mom we have plunged into reading aloud together and it has changed our worlds. This book was the icing on the cake for our long trip from Pennsylvania to North Carolina on vacation. We elected the audible version since reading in the car for me makes me carsick. The narrator did a great job on this one....the voices and the way he made the characters come alive really aided for us in staying in the story.
As others have stated, I felt a twinge of Narnia here but that's to be expected when you have talking and fighting rabbits. The author painted a beautiful picture of a broken and chaotic world in which rabbits were literally fighting for their lives. Community and a true love of the their neighbor were themes woven into the storyline. Our favorite line would be, "My place beside you. My blood for yours. Til the Green Ember rises...or the end of the world." Redemption. forgiveness, and a sense of "almost, not yet, already" were strong elements we picked up on and loved.
I'm telling all my friends and fellow homeschooling friends to get this book. It's truly worth it and will be on our top 5 list for years I imagine! Thank you SD Smith for penning these words. They were beautiful and we cannot WAIT for your sequel coming up soon!
