Why doesn't everyone already have this??
This is simply the best water bottle I have ever had. Even if you took away the smart capability, which, let's be honest, is the reason I spent nearly $60 on it, this water bottle is superior to any others I've ever had. Seriously. I have been saving up and pining for this water bottle and in the meantime, I tried to make do with ones that I'd already had or cheaper ones I bought. I now have a surprising of opinions on water bottles which may or may not be shared, but here is my list of reasons why this is a superior water bottle:
1. The Lip: other water bottles, like the once popular Nalgene or even some of the camel bottles, have too large an opening. If I am walking, driving, or even sitting up in bed and need to take a sip, I would run a decent risk of spilling on myself. With Hidrate Spark, I have rarely, if ever, had this problem.
2. Cleaning/sanitary-ness: Some other water bottles I've looked at have straws. I think this is gross for a couple of reasons. These are way harder to clean, usually a thinner plastic that is more likely to erode or bend, and any germs that get on them or if I am wearing lipstick, it's much harder to get this stuff off of those built in straws. Hidrate Spark is BPA free and the size of the lip is so easy to just wipe if I don't have time to wash the whole thing!
3. Weight: Glass bottles are nice, but they are HEAVY. I've used other thick plastic bottles (like Nalgene) and these are *also* heavy. I'm usually taking this water bottle to an exercise class, not using it to exercise WITH. Even full of water, this bottle is lightweight.
4. Shape/Grip: Some bottles are too thick to hold without the strap and eventually the strap can break. Another thing I've found with glass bottles is that the condensation is way worse than plastic and therefore slippery (and glass is more apt to break). This bottle doesn't sweat too badly and the shape really lends itself to a comfortable grip.
5. The Fill Line: Maybe I am dumb, but I can't always tell how high I can fill other bottles without them spilling over. The fill line on this bottle is super helpful for people like me ;)
6. Leakproof: In addition to the fill line problem, I have had bottles leak in my bags and this is disastrous. So far I have thrown the Hidrate Spark in all kinds of positions and next to papers in my bag and have not noticed any spilling, except when I knock it over without closing the cap ... which is user error on my part.
7. IT'S PRETTY: Seriously guys, I am a big fan of spending money on things that I will actually enjoy having and looking at, no matter how insignificant. You need water to live, you drink it all of the time, doesn't it make sense to have a delivery system that is pleasing to the eye? This is another factor that out of ALL of the other water bottles I've ever owned or seen, this is the prettiest.
Now the part that makes this bottle above and beyond: the water intake tracking. I'll be honest, I don't know how much water I was drinking before I started using this bottle, but I am like 90% sure I have been drinking more water since I've owned this thing. Not only does it glow to remind you (which you can turn off if you're self-conscious about a creepy glowing water bottle in spin class) but the app reminders are clever and helpful. I am a huge tech-o-phile and love gadgets and also anything that helps to better automate my life. In getting back into fitness and improving my health, I wanted to cross all my t's and dot all my i's. I had a Fitbit, I used MyFitnessPal, I even meditate with an app, but water was a missing puzzle piece. I really consider this water bottle to be a perfect foundational fitness tool in what I consider to be the quinfecta (steps/activity, food, water, sleep, and mindfulness) of wellness tracking. I'm not a fitness or health expert by any means, nor did I receive any kind of incentive to leave this review, but for what it's worth:
THIS WATER BOTTLE IS WORTH EVERY DANG PENNY!
